(Lipid) Metabolism And OA
Although osteoarthritis (OA) is currently considered to be associated with metabolic disorders and metabolic syndrome (MetS), direct evidence for this is lacking. Because MetS is associated with abnormal cholesterol levels and production of oxysterol metabolites, we aim to characterize the role of abnormal cholesterol metabolism in OA pathogenesis. We present evidences that the CH25H-CYP7B1-RORα axis of cholesterol metabolism in chondrocytes is a crucial catabolic regulator of the pathogenesis of OA.
