Naoshi Fukui, MD, PhD

Dr. Fukui received his MD degree from Tokyo University in 1986. In 1993, after completing his residency, he became a staff physician in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Tokyo University Hospital. In 1999, he joined Dr. Linda Sandell’s laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, where he started research on OA. In 2002, he returned to Japan and became a chief investigator at the Clinical Research Center of National Sagamihara Hospital. In 2011, he moved to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Tokyo University, and became a professor in 2013. Since 1999, Dr. Fukui has been working on the pathology of OA. In recent years, he has primarily been interested in the synovial changes that occur with the disease.
