Dr Steven Blackburn is Lead Adviser of Public Involvement in Research, NIHR Research Design Service West Midlands and Research Fellow in Patient and Public Involvement & Engagement (PPIE) at the School for Primary, Community and Social Care, Keele University.  Steven is the lead for PPIE at Keele, supporting the involvement of a large Research User Group of over 130 patients with a range of health conditions, in primary care research and implementation studies. He is the Public Involvement Lead for the Research Design Service (RDS) National Office and Chair of the national NIHR INVOLVE/Research Design Service Public Involvement Community. Regionally, Steven coordinates the West Midlands regional PPIE network (PILAR). Steven's current research projects include digital innovations for empowering patients with musculoskeletal conditions; developing public involvement and engagement in global health research; and recently, international PPIE lead for a large European implementation project for osteoarthritis (JIGSAW-E).
